UX and product design for software
We're a UX design agency that designs software we also build and run, and that changes how we design. Every screen is drawn with real data, real edge cases and the build in mind, so what you approve is what you get, and it still works with ten thousand records and a slow connection.
We design web apps, SaaS products, portals and internal tools, and the website that explains the product and brings customers in.
What we build
- User research
- Flows and wireframes
- Interface design
- A design system
- The product website
- Usability testing
From research to screens
Good product design starts with the people who'll use it: what they're trying to get done, what they use today and where it lets them down. We talk to them, watch them work where we can, and turn what we learn into the flows and screens that matter most.
Then we design the interface in detail, every state included: empty, loading, full, wrong and slow. Those are the screens that make software feel finished, and the ones most often skipped.
What we build
User research
Interviews, observation and a look at support emails and analytics, to find out what people actually need.
Flows and wireframes
How someone gets from arriving to getting the job done, tested in rough form before anything is polished.
Interface design
Every screen and every state, with type, colour and spacing chosen for the people using it, and accessible by default.
A design system
Reusable components and rules, so new screens look right and get built faster.
The product website
The pages that explain what the product does, who it's for and why it's worth it, written and designed to convert.
Usability testing
Real people trying real tasks, so problems are found before launch rather than by your customers.
Design for a product that's already live
If your product is live, we start with how people use it now: support emails, search terms, where they drop off, and a handful of conversations. Small changes to the screens people use most often usually do more than a redesign.
Accessible by default
We design to WCAG 2.2 AA: colour contrast that holds up, text that scales, everything usable with a keyboard, and forms that explain what went wrong. It's the law for many public-sector buyers, and it makes the product better for everyone.
How a project runs
Design runs as a stage with a fixed price: research, flows, then detailed screens, with your feedback at each step. You get designs for every screen and state, and a design system your developers, or we, can build from.
When we build what we design, the same people carry it through, so nothing is lost in the handover.
Software we built and still run
Our own products, live today. We designed, built and host every one of them.
-
4dayweek.io
A job board designed for scanning: salary, location and schedule visible at a glance on every job, and search that narrows thousands of jobs quickly.
-
Add to CRM
An extension that sits beside LinkedIn, Gmail and Outlook and adds a contact to a CRM in one click, without leaving the page.
-
ADHD Private
A directory designed around the questions people ask first: who the assessment is for, where they are, and how it's funded.
Questions
Do you design without building?
Yes. We can design a product for your own developers to build, with a design system and specifications they can work from.
Can you improve a live product without starting again?
Usually that's the better route. We find the few changes that matter most, design them, and measure what changes after they ship.
Do you test with real users?
Yes, wherever we can reach them. A handful of sessions with the right people finds most of the problems worth fixing.
What do we get at the end?
Designs for every screen and state, a design system with its components, and a clickable prototype, ready for developers to build from.
